Forest and Insects Mural

Private Residence, Bucks County, Pennsylvania

When the children of a gentleman farmer in Bucks County, Pennsylvania — commissioned a small mural across a running pantry closet in his Colonial stone house, the name 'RUFUS PORTER' — Colonial renaissance man (and one of my most revered muralist and portraitist creatives) — sang out to me.

So, in an echo of the wonderful chest of drawers whereupon across each drawer the artist created a treescape —I painted a naive, antiqued forestscape with — in honor of the client's suggestion, as he stood with his National Geographic article on forest and meadow insects in hand — an insectscape below the bullet border. One of the most satisfying client interactions, as well as an homage to a great mentor to me and to many: brilliant Colonial American itinerant painter, scientist, inventor, etc. etc. Rufus Porter.

A superb naive Colonial American painted chest.

The Fenimore Art Museum's iconic ‘Bears and Pears’ fireboard was painted by a follower of Colonial itinerant painter, scientist, inventor, publisher and change maker Rufus Porter.
